Meet Shianne Gray, who plays Cordelia the sea elf rogue swashbuckler in Adventures in Questing! We asked Shianne a few questions about her D&D journey:
1. What’s your favorite thing about the campaign so far?
I love how open this world is and how deep the history and lore goes—more than we even know so far, I think! There are so many things I’m curious about and mysteries I can’t wait to uncover. I also really love the places and characters that Max and I came up with related to my backstory, and I hope we get to visit them in our game soon!
2. What inspired this character?
A few things: I had just read the book Red Seas Under Red Skies by Scott Lynch, which has the coolest pirates EVER, so I was inspired by that to make a pirate character. I also wanted to have a character who doesn’t fear death, since I as a player have always been really afraid of my characters dying, so this is my attempt at getting over that. She’s 400 years old, she’s lived a long time, and her philosophy is basically that the goddess of death takes you when it’s your time, so there’s no point in worrying about it.
3. What’s a hobby or passion you have outside of D&D?
I’m currently working on getting my MFA in Arts Administration, and I seriously nerd out about arts advocacy and cultural policy. I recently got to visit the office of the National Endowment for the Arts in Washington DC, and it was basically like I was meeting Beyoncé or something.
